BolleNoord - Iris
With the Dutch Lily Days behind us, we are already looking forward to the iris inspections on Wednesday, June 13 at BolleNoord Groteweg 9 in ‘t Zand. Last Year in 2011 we showed some varieties and won a price with the Buffalo. Shall we win another price again? Who will tell.
June, month of the lily
Saturday, June 2 will the action campaign 'June, month of the lily " gets a very special start. At the Vrijheidsdreef Dreef in Heemstede places the Flower Council for one day a six-foot transparent bubble. After entering, the visitor is treated to a real treat for all senses.
Filled with 500 lilies are the smells and colors of many different species overwhelming. With the central theme 'Femininit...y' Heemstede is the perfect place for the start of the campaignmonth. Heemstede is the most feminine city in the Netherlands.
With 113 female residents for every 100 men Heemstede according to the Central Bureau of Statistics the city where relatively most women live. Heemstede is the ideal place for the femininity of the lily to show. The unique exhibition in the lily-bell is single and only one day experience.
Ladies first:
The Lily-Bel is Saturday, June 2 from 10.00 - 17.00 to admire and visit at the Vrijheidsdreef in Heemstede. The entrance is free for ladies and gentlemen, but ladies go certainly in this case - first.

Lilies in Wonderland
The Keukenhof is Thursday started with the last special
show before the park closes for the fences again this year. Traditionally, the
Lily Parade. This time without company presentations of the lily industry.
"Lilies in Wonderland" is the theme of the
new structure of the largest lily show in the world, from 10 to 20 May in the
Willem Alexander Pavilion. As many as 200 'floral tube' of 3.5 meters high to

lily parade declined. That made us decide to put more attention to the Dutch
Lily Days ", says Nico Vletter, Director of Gebr. Vletter & Den Haan. "This
year, we provide it to the Keukenhof, but that's the last time. The Keukenhof is
not a platform for the trade of the leliebusiness. It is mainly the consumers
who look at the flowers and there we are very far from. You can choose to live
and grow from sentimental reasons, but it all takes a lot of money and delivers
little.
Baptism by AZ celebrities
It has become a tradition that on the first day of the show
a new lily lily is baptized and the connection to sport is laid. This year
baptisms coach Gert-Jan Verbeek and director Toon Gerbrands a lily,
“Alkmaar”.The new red-white lily “Alkmaar” belongs to the OT lilies are hybrids
between two different groups: Oriental and Trumpet.

Origin of the Gladiolus
In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were discovered in South Africa in the wild gladiolus of notable size. These were crossed and especially from the Netherlands were more and more varieties on the market, ranging in size from 50 to 170 centimeters. Also appeared small types, Gladiolus nanus, particularly graceful and beautiful species. A smaller type is called Butterfly gladioli, they are distinguished by a particular color pattern.
As written, the gladioli come originally from South Africa. There they were used as food by the population and mixed in biologics.
The name "gladiolus" is derived from the Latin "gladius" which means sword, which refers to the leaf shape.
The ancient Romans were infamous gladiator fights took place. It was literally to the death or gladioli: who overcame the other, was buried under gladioli.

Origin of the Iris
The iris's history is rich, dating back to Ancient Greek times when the Greek Goddess Iris, the messenger of the gods and the personification of the rainbow, acted as the link between heaven and earth. Purple irises were planted over the graves of women to summon the Goddess to guide the dead in their journey. Ancient Egyptian kings marveled in the iris's exotic nature, and drawings have been found of the flower in a number of Egyptian palaces. During the Middle Ages, the meaning of irises became linked to the French monarchy, and the Fleur-de-lis eventually became the recognized national symbol of France. From their earliest years, irises were used to make perfume and as a medicinal remedy. Today, they are primarily seen in gardens, in bouquets, and in the wild all over the world.
Today, the iris is the state flower of Tennessee, and the Fleur-de-lis is the emblem for the city of New Orleans. Irises are cultivated all over the world, and they can be found naturally in Europe, the Middle East, northern Africa, Asia, and North America.

About us
HISTORY
After 70 years in cultivation of
flower bulbs, we started in 1970 a wholesale company and the preparation of
Iris, Lily's and Tulips. A few years later we stopped with the flower bulb
cultivation of Tulips. We have put our focus on preparation and on wholesale of
Iris, Lily and gladiolus. A few years later we set up a program concerning Iris
breeding. In 2000 we started with Lily breeding. In 2006 we took over colleague
Gladiolus exporter. Our main products now are Iris, Lily and Gladiolus. For all
these products, we have test programs for better preparation and preservation,
to maintain good quality bulbs for whole year cultivation.
IRIS
Iris harvest begins in August. The
harvested clean bulbs then come to our company, where they undergo monitoring
and quality checks. The bulbs will be stored at +30 degrees Celsius, with a
minimum of 2 weeks to a maximum of 50 weeks. Bulb Iris is in a resting stage at
+30 degrees Celsius. After this resting stage the bulbs undergo a temperature
treatment for flowering, depending on the region, the plant date and the plant
conditions. After all the treatments the bulbs can be delivered to the customers
with climate conditioned transport.
Bot flowerbulbs has also developed a method for transport of Iris by -1.5 degrees Celsius, to combine the transport of the Iris and the Lilies, which enables an efficient transport.

LILIUM
The Lilium harvest starts in
October till December depending on the variety. On arrival of the bulbs in our
company, the bulbs will undergo
a quality check. After these checks, they are stored in the climate rooms.
After acclimatisation the bulbs will be disinfected and packed for long storage.
The packing of the Lilium is fully automatic. Thereafter our qualified staff
perform an extra after check. The Lilium bulbs will be stored for a minimum of 6
weeks in cooling rooms to interrupt their dormancy. The packed Lilium bulbs are
stored for a maximum of 13 months before they are planted. The required freezing
time will be calculated using sugar measurements.
GLADIOLUS
The Gladiolus harvest starts in
November till December. On arrival of the bulbs in our
company, the bulbs will undergo a quality check. They will have an additional
drying period. They finally will be stored at 3-4
degrees Celsius. The Gladiolus storage period can run up to a maximum of 13
months.
Bot flower bulbs collaborates with a company specialized in gladiolus bulb. With their assistance we select the plant material, that is exported to Syria , where the young material will grow to the final deliverable bulb. Harvesting starts in November till December. We receive the Syrian bulbs in February and in March in our company. These gladiolus bulbs have more content, weight and quality because of the good climate conditions compared to the conditions of the Gladiolus bulbs of Dutch origin. Therefore Syrian Gladiolus bulbs result into higher quality flowers with a much bigger stem and a longer ear full with flowers.

In 2011 was Lily Company proclaimed by Rabobank Westfriesland Oost "starter of the quarter" Today the owners Paul Egdom, Jan Willem Metzelaar, Edward and Evert Bot were interviewed. This interview will be broadcast during the award ceremony. All 4 quarterly winners will be present. The public will then choose which quarter winner will be the winner of 2011. Good luck!
